« Peering into the Universe with multi-messenger Cosmology »

Suvodip Mukherjee
Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (Paris, France)

Next generation missions in astrophysics and cosmology are going to explore the Universe over a wide range of redshifts using multi-messenger probes such as electromagnetic waves, gravitational waves, etc. This new provision brings a unique cosmological window to explore the fundamental laws of physics and to unveil cosmic history over a wide range of redshifts. The speaker will discuss the effect of gravitational lensing of astrophysical gravitational wave signal due to cosmic structures and will introduce a new multi-messenger avenue to probe the fundamental laws of gravity by cross-correlating the GW signal of astrophysical origin with the lensing field derived from the cosmic microwave background and the large scale structure. This new window will make robust measurement of the prediction from general theory of relativity with high signal-to-noise and will be able to unveil the true nature of gravity using the gravitational wave sources detected by missions such as LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory), LISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna), Cosmic Explorer, and many others.
